A few tips from Josh on what to know about a quality Roofing Company.

Quality Service

Quality service will advertise itself and some companies can go too far to get your business.

A past example is from 2011 when roofers used airplanes as an advertisement means. Be wary of anyone knocking on your door or anything else unusual. That means they don’t have enough work and after a storm like the one in 2011 and they should have plenty of work. That’s a big red flag.

A great way to see if a contractor is legitimate is to simply ask for their identification or better yet check for an official company website. In January. 1, 2011 contractors where required to register with the state of Oklahoma and in order to be registered, the state of Oklahoma makes the contractors have workers’ compensation coverage and general liability insurance.

Checking for Registration with the State of Oklahoma

Checking for registration is my No. 1 tip. Everything from their business card to the company’s website must have their registration number on it, but very few contractors follow that rule.

If homeowners don’t hire a company from Oklahoma, they are encouraged to photograph the license plates of contractors’ vehicles to have a reliable record of where the contractor is from and where they might be going. Finding a trustworthy roofer may be a challenge but doing your homework could well worth it.

A Business Comparison and History

A great way to compare contractors in the area is to visit the Better Business Bureau’s website. There are over 190 local roofing companies listed but 125 or around 64 percent of those listed are accredited with the Better Business Bureau.

Never Pay for Work Up Front

Another rule of thumb is when picking a roofing contractor is to never pay money up front. It doesn’t matter if it’s a fraction of the total cost; the company should have established credit and should be able to purchase materials before starting the job.

There are many reasons homes are left un-repaired but the main reason is because the homeowners are waiting for insurance adjusters to send checks. If you are unsure of how the insurance process works, give your agent a call as soon as you can because after a storm, the agent might be overwhelmed with claim questions.
